Arise, cry out in the night, at the beginning of the night watches!
Pour out your heart like water before the presence of the Lord!
Lift your hands to him for the lives of your children, who faint for hunger at the head of every street.

Igniting a Fire

A while back, my husband and I were rearranging the room I use for my office. In the process we had relocated a bunch of items on my desk. The window curtains were open and the sun was streaming in, warming the room. We needed to move one rather large item of furniture to another location. It was awkward to move and took us some time.

When we came back, there was this odd smell in the room. Then, I noticed smoke. The sun's rays, so beautifully lighting up the room, were hitting a magnifying mirror. The glass, in turn, was focusing all that power onto one spot on my desk. We had returned just in time to catch it before actual flame burst forth.

Even cracked mirrors can start fires.

This reminds me of what happens in conversational, one accord prayer. Fern Nichols, Founder & President of Moms in Prayer International, likens one accord prayer to when a magnifying glass captures the sun's rays and powerfully focuses them to ignite a fire.

When we pray by ourselves, it's not that we don't see answers. Of course we do.

But, when we pray with others, it is just like what happened to those rays of sun. Think of those rays as individual voices. One by one they were warming and lighting the room. They were effective, just as James said Elijah's prayers were. But when those rays joined together, wow! That is reflective of what Jesus said that when two or more are gathered together in His name, He is there. That's power amplified!
