When we came back, there was this odd smell in the room.
Then, I noticed smoke. The sun's rays, so beautifully lighting up the room,
were hitting a magnifying mirror. The glass, in turn, was focusing all that
power onto one spot on my desk. We had returned just in time to catch it before
actual flame burst forth.
Even cracked mirrors
can start fires.
This reminds me of what happens in conversational, one
accord prayer. Fern Nichols, Founder & President of Moms in Prayer International, likens one accord prayer to when a magnifying
glass captures the sun's rays and powerfully focuses them to ignite a fire.
When we pray by ourselves, it's not that we don't see
answers. Of course we do.
But, when we pray with others, it is just like what happened
to those rays of sun. Think of those rays as individual voices. One by one they
were warming and lighting the room. They were effective, just as James said
Elijah's prayers were. But when those rays joined together, wow! That is
reflective of what Jesus said that when two or more are gathered together in
His name, He is there. That's power amplified!
