A friend of mine who moved from the Puget Sound area to our
corner of SE Washington took a look at the Blue Mountains that backdrop the
Walla Walla Valley and said, "Those aren't mountains." Well, maybe
not compared to Mount Rainier.
But the truth is all mountains are mountains be they height
challenged or have their heads in the clouds.
In the physical realm, some mountains just beg to be scaled.
Others are deemed to be impassable and require taking a different route to go
around, tunneling through or soaring over. Many in their geological structure
just require more fortitude to conquer than others no matter how one goes about
it.
That's good to remember as we pray for our children.
The "mountains" in their lives aren't always what they
appear to be as size may not be the determining factor to identify a mountain. That
is because what seems a hill to you, may be a mountain to me.
But, there is something important that Jesus said to His
disciples about mountains, "Truly I say to you, if you have faith (a firm
relying trust) and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the
fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, Be taken up and cast into the
sea, it will be done." (Matthew 21:21 AMP)
In other words, some mountains in our lives can be conquered
in such a way as if they never existed. That reminds me of Isaiah 40:4 (AMP)—
Every valley shall be lifted and filled up, and every mountain and hill
shall be made low; and the crooked and uneven shall be made straight and level,
and the rough places a plain.
When we moms bring our children to the Lord God, we bring
them to the One who not only formed the physical mountains but existed before
them and always will—from everlasting to everlasting. We bring them to the One
God who has the power to deal with any kind of mountain and who works to show
Himself active on behalf of those who earnestly wait for Him. (Psalm 90:2, Isaiah
64:3-4 AMP)
But there is one mountain all need to climb—the mountain of
faith.
And many people shall come and say, Come, let us go up to the mountain
of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob, that He may teach us His ways
and that we may walk in His paths. For out of Zion shall go forth the law and
instruction, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
Isaiah 2:3 (AMP)
That means some of the mountains our children's lives are
there for good reason. That is why the Holy Spirit and God's Word need to be
active participants with us in our prayers. Then our prayers will be active in
helping our children conquer the mountains of life. And they will experience in
doing so the salvation and peace of God.
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good
tidings, who publishes peace, who brings good tidings of good, who publishes
salvation, who says to Zion, Your God reigns!
Isaiah 52:7 (AMP)
